An accommodation platform that aspires to challenge its competitors

Stay In a Pub’s platform is dedicated to promoting and facilitating pub accommodation across the UK. The website currently works with a referral system to member—and other listed—pubs, which requires customers needing to go to an external site in order to book, meaning a fragmented experience for users. Along with some general upkeep, the business owners wanted to bring their site inline with some of the larger booking platforms (like AirBnB and booking.com).

A new booking feature to help users book directly with member pubs

The newly introduced booking feature now enables a seamless, end-to-end journey where users can book directly with their chosen pub without needing to leave the platform. This improvement maintains a cohesive booking experience, similar to that on competitors’ sites, eliminating unexpected transitions to third-party websites and providing a more efficient, trusted, and enjoyable way to make reservations.

"It’s an absolute pleasure working with the team at Hancock & Rowe. Their expertise has given us newfound confidence in our booking journey, enabling us to better support our pubs in today’s challenging market. They’re always available to discuss our service challenges and work collaboratively to strategize solutions that meet the needs of both our users and our business."

Sophie Braybrooke, Chief Executive Officer, Stay In A Pub

A less is more booking experience that helps conversion

The new booking experience embraces a "less is more" ethos, requesting only essential details from users to deliver quick and relevant results. The user interface is intentionally kept simple and intuitive, guiding users clearly through each step and supporting higher conversion rates.

When selected dates are unavailable, alternative options are prominently displayed to ensure users can easily find suitable choices. This user-friendly approach aims to increase retention by inspiring users to return for future bookings, driven by the ease and convenience of the experience.

A bespoke booking process using TXGB

Stay In A Pub has partnered with Tourism Exchange GB (TXGB) to simplify the booking management process for its members, ensuring ease and efficiency. TXGB has invested in creating an extensive, enhanced inventory database that pubs can access instantly with the press of a button, providing a streamlined solution that supports members in managing their bookings effortlessly.

Integrated into pre-existing website designs and templates

TXGB and the new booking feature were seamlessly integrated into the Stay In A Pub website, built in WordPress, thanks to the expertise of the talented team at Branch

The User Interface (UI) components and blocks were carefully designed to blend smoothly with the existing Stay In A Pub brand and website, requiring no major redesign or additional expenses. Additional site-wide improvements, guided by insights from the Usability Behaviour Audit, were implemented to enhance the user experience and boost conversion rates—with further enhancements planned for the future.

Ongoing partnership

The new and improved booking flow will be going live towards the end of 2024 and is just the beginning for our partnership with Stay In A Pub. We’re excited to see the results it’s set to bring whilst we’re now busy working on refining the UX and UI of the niche accommodation platform. Watch this space for updates.
