Here at Hancock and Rowe we have a human approach in a digital age. We want to create a sense of relief, that feeling of freedom the moment a weight has been lifted. Introducing Katie, our Creative Director who grew up in Kent.


Where do you come from? 

I grew up in the Kent countryside living half an hour away from the coast, and half an hour from London, so I very much had the best of both worlds. I was always creative at heart, with dancing and tennis being my main interests growing up. After studying a Graphic Design degree at the Arts University Bournemouth, I moved to London and worked in various design studios for nine years. 


Where are you now? 

For the past year, I have joined forces with my husband, Jase, and came on board at Hancock and Rowe, working part time as the Creative Director. I work behind the scenes supporting the growth and marketing of the business as well as client work. 


How did you travel between the two? 

A whole lot of fun at uni, five years extending that fun living in London, exploring the world from European cities to Sri Lanka, attending most of the festivals the UK has to offer and making sure there’s always time to get on the water to go paddleboarding.

Now for the professional side: I’ve always been passionate about the meticulous details in design, from initial briefing to seeing a project launch in the wild. Working in London for nine years gave me a breadth of experience with some of the UK’s most exciting brands from Dragon’s Den winners to top football associations. 

When we decided to start a family, it came with a fair amount of uncertainty professionally as I knew I didn’t want to work the long days and the commute that came with the London job title. After taking a year away from the industry to have a baby, I came on board part time to Hancock and Rowe, allowing me to fulfill my passion for design, but also enjoy raising our son and see him grow into a thriving little boy. 

What are your hopes for the future and the digital world? 

I hope to be able to advocate the need for flexible working for mothers, especially in the creative industries. It doesn’t have to be the long hours that it is known for. Here at Hancock and Rowe one of our core principles is ‘Freedom for all’ and as we grow we want our clients and employees to be able to bring their true selves to work, incorporating personal life with their professional life. Personally, I hope to be able to be a role model for my children. Professionally, we’re working towards reducing our digital impact on the planet with some exciting work in the pipeline, using less energy to be more environmentally friendly.
